Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya accused of poor performance

The leadership of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency has accused incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) Sarah Adwoa Safo of misusing the MP’s Common Fund and taking the glory for projects not completed by her.

The allegations follow her comments that President John Dramani Mahama had brought untoward hardship to her constituents as she launched her bid for re-election recently.

The NDC at a news conference on Wednesday July 13 alleged that the MP inflated the costs of some borehole drilling projects in the constituency. They cited areas like Ashongman Village, Agbogba, Haatso, Dome Cluster of Schools and Dome Market where she allegedly bloated the cost of the projects.

The NDC parliamentary aspirant for the constituency, Nurudeen Mohammed, further pointed out on Class FM’s news and current affairs analysis programme Inside Politics on Wednesday July 13 that the MP should come clean.

He told the host Moro Awudu: “She has failed to do the important things that are needed to be done and claims her government is not in power so she is unable to embark on such projects. When good interventions take place in the area she claims ownership. A typical example is the stretch of road from St. John’s to Dome. This is a tarred road which she goes around telling people that she constructed it; but it was not done by her.”

According to him, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) had doubted the possibility and expressed scepticism over the Mahama-led government’s project of building Senior High Schools across the country. He, therefore, finds it difficult to understand how the MP could go and lobby for something she did not believe in.

“Adwoa Safo said she lobbied for the building of a community day Senior High School in Dome-Kwabenya, which is palpably false and one of many others by our honourable MP,” he added.

Meanwhile the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has refuted the allegations, indicating that the NDC is only propagating lies to stay in government.

NPP chairman for Dome Kwabenya Robert Osei Bonsu, on the other hand, wondered: “If Adwoa Safo says she lobbied why is Nurudeen doubting that? Who did he talk to?”

He continued: “The NDC is desperate and come up with lies. We think Adwoa Safo has done enough and we endorse her for re-election.”
