Gonjaland NDC women descend on NPP MP

Women’s wing of the Gonjaland NDC Youth Caucus (GOYCA) has condemned the recent misogynistic comments of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong against the Chairperson of the EC Mrs. Charlotte Osei.

In a statement signed by the leadership of the group, it said the group is appalled and heartbroken by these chauvinistic comments stating that the legislator’s comments are irresponsible, barbaric and backward.

‘People of his stature, at the least have a moral obligation to promote non-discrimination on the basis of sex, religion, race, etc. It is, therefore, unfortunate that he has chosen to stand against such.

In our view, The Assin Central Legislator’s indecent effusions have become one too many, and that the time to mobilise against his conduct is now.

His penchant for vulgarity and violence is becoming too legendary. He and his likes must be tamed, perhaps in the most legitimate means possible.

We want to use this opportunity to crave the indulgence of all the converging voices on this matter to stick together in our glorious beliefs in sustaining the pressure on the self-conceited Agyapong to retract and apologise unreservedly to the EC Chair and the people of Ghana’, it added.

While observing that his comments do not surprise the group given his record of loose and nonsensical talk, (that is his declaration of war on Ga’s & Voltarians and his caustic tit-for-tat banter with a female radio personality, Afia Schwarzenegger), the group added that it is incredible that known NPP bigwigs led by their Flagbearer (Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo) have shied away from commenting on the matter.

‘His comment is not just an insult to the person of the EC Chairperson; it’s an insult to womanhood. Sadly, he made these comments at the campaign launch of an NPP Parliamentary Candidate who is also a woman and for once was equally a victim of such abuses by another NPP Sitting MP. These are some of the reasons why some women shy away from sensitive positions and even politics because they’re tagged prostitutes by supposed responsible men in responsible positions like the Member of Parliament’, it emphasized.

The women group said it is disappointed that such a man is supposedly a law maker for Ghanaians who is supposed to promote and champion women empowerment and therefore call on Kennedy Agyapong to do the honorable thing by apologizing to Mrs. Osei and Ghanaians at large.
