Energy Minister accused of bussing Ivoirians to register

It seems accusations and counter accusations of bussing people across the country’s border and minors to register in the limited biometric voters’ registration is yet to end as the latest to be accused is the Minister for Energy and Member of Parliament for Ellembele Constituency in the Western Region Emmanuel-Armah Kofi Buah.

The Energy Minister was reported to have rented three 207 Mini Benz buses which he used in conveying people from the neighbouring Ivory Coast.

In a telephone interview with the host of Ghana Dadwen on Onua FM, Former Assembly Member of Takinta electoral area in the Jomoro District of the Western Region James Bogolo said the Energy Minister is using both the Immigration and the Police at the borders of Ivory Coast to perpetrate the fraud.

The former Assemblyman fumed “I was there when the three 207 busses came to one registration centre when we confronted them the Minister’s macho men threatened to deal with us, my brother what can we do? James Bogolo told Bright Kwesi Asempa that the situation has raised tension among the two parties in the region, adding that if the Minister is not brought to book things may go out of hand.

“He is a Minster and MP so the Police cannot do anything; it seems he has compromised the security agencies so they also watch him do these things. This is just a limited registration, what will he (Kofi Buah) do in the general elections” James Bogolo lamented.

Joining the program in a rage of fury was the MP for Tema East Nii Titus Glover who corroborated James Bogolo’s account saying he has been reliably informed by a friend who is an Immigration officer-a name he wants to keep anonymous for fear of being persecuted-that the cabinet Minister and MP for Ellembele is actually engaging in the despicable act.

“My very good friend Armah Kofi-Buah is a legislator and he knows too well that it is wrong to bring foreigners to register”.

The Tema East law maker wondered why there are talks of cleaning the country’s electoral document but his colleague in parliament would want to compound the already albatross situation.

Meanwhile when the producer of the program reached Member of Parliament for Ellembele constituency in the Western Region Emmanuel-Armah Kofi Buah for reaction, he declined speaking on air but rather told the producer “I don’t want to dignify that allegation, I am in a bush somewhere monitoring the registration and I don’t want to waste time responding to empty and frivolous accusations from my detractors”.

Tried as the producer could to get him comment on air while both Titus-Glover and James Bogolo were on, was met with severe resistance from the MP.
