Let's walk the path of change to bring progress - Minister

The Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Abdallah Abubakari, has called for the people to put the past behind them and walk the path of change to bring progress.

They should accept to work together to push forward the area’s development agenda.

Everybody, he said, must find space to contribute towards efforts at making the region attractive to investors.

He was speaking at a meeting with the chiefs and people of Bimbilla in the Nanumba North District as part of a day’s official visit to assess the security situation there.

Mr. Abubakari reminded them that they could not make any meaningful development headway amid conflict and confusion.

He said he found it deeply troubling the protracted chieftaincy conflicts in Dagbon, Nanum and Mamprugu and said these had been counterproductive to moves at transforming the living conditions of the people.

He pleaded with the feuding factions to see themselves as belonging to one family and to make the peace.

Alhaji Mohammed Ibn Abass, the District Chief Executive, spoke of significant improvement of the security situation in the area and asked for a review of the curfew that had been in force in Bimbilla for some time now.

The order, he suggested, should be relaxed to enable the people to go about their businesses.

Naa Andani Dasana, Regent of Bimbilla, said the law must work to bring finality to the Nanum conflict.

He described as disheartening, seeing people known to have committed crimes go unpunished.

He demanded justice for his murdered father to assure “the rest of us in the palace of our safety”.

Naa Dasana applauded the government for massive infrastructure development in the area but said that would come to nothing if there was no peace there.

The Minister later paid a courtesy call on the Regent of Yendi, Kampakuya-Na Yakubu Andani, where he reechoed the need for the people to unite and pull together to make things better for everybody.
