The incumbent Member of Parliament for the Manhyia-North Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Hon Collins Randy Owusu Amankwah says he is confident of chalking another famous victory in the upcoming parliamentary polls in the area on Monday. In an exclusive chat with the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper in Kumasi moments after some of the constituency’s delegates were allegedly assaulted by some personal bodyguards of the regional chairman, the youngest ever MP noted his confidence in the constituency delegates.

According to him, no matter the machinations against him by some disgruntled party members the delegates would crown his efforts and patience with a massive endorsement in the internal poll. Hon Amankwah stressed that he had together with delegates ensured they carried out a massive development agenda in the constituency and was therefore convinced that they would endorse his candidature this Monday. ”I have no doubt that the delegates in Manhyia North would crown our collective efforts with a very massive endorsement of my candidature this Monday’’.

He noted, “having collectively started a good work at the constituency including the establishment of a scholarship fund for the needy, the construction of some mosques and other educational infrastructure the delegates of Manhyia North will give me a second chance in parliament’’. Meanwhile, earlier on last Wednesday, about 150 delegates from the Manhyia North constituency held a press conference to protest the treatment that was meted out against some of their colleagues who visited the regional party office.

Speaking on behalf of the 12 persons who were reportedly beaten up by some bodyguards of the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, Patricia Arthur, Deputy Secretary of the constituency noted their abhorrence and displeasure at the conduct of the party’s chairman.

She wondered why their own regional Chairman could look on unconcerned when his assigns beat up hapless delegates to pulp without any provocation.
These delegates, according to her had gone to the regional party office to inquire why a scheduled re-run of some of the disputed polling stations had not come on but were met with beatings and torture by some bodyguards called Delta forces at the party office. She however on behalf the group has called for investigations into the matter so as to unearth the perpetrators of the heinous and unprovoked attacks.
