Three Parties Form Coalition

The Great Consolidated People’s Party, the People’s National Convention and the EGLE Party have started putting in place mechanisms aimed at ensuring their success at next year’s general elections. The three parties have come together to form what they call the Grand Coalition.

They have already signed a memorandum of Understanding outlining the structure of the grand coalition, its committees, regulations and programmes for the elections. Speaking in an interview with JOY FM, the Leader of PNC, Dr Edward Mahama explained that the Grand Coalition was formed because of the inability of the various parties to form an alliance.

He said the coalition will present common candidates for both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections. “We will present a common presidential candidate, we will present common parliamentary candidates and we will do this for what is in the best interest of Ghana. Not what is best for Dan Lartey, not what is best for Dr Mahama and not what is best for Danny Ofori Atta”, Dr Mahama noted.

At the Grand Coalition’s First Council meeting on Friday, Dan Lartey of the GCPP was unanimously elected as its chairman.
