The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) has indicated its determination to work together with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and other bodies to promote effective voter education to make the November 7, general elections peaceful.

The Reverend Dr. Kwabena Opuni Frimpong, the General Secretary, said they would strengthen their conversation and engagement with the people – the key political actors, the media and identified groups, to help everybody to act responsibly.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) he said the Council was mobilizing the needed resources to undertake the activity.

The goal is to make sure that all accepted to play by the rules of the game – tolerance, civility, decency and transparency.

The Rev Dr. Opuni-Frimpong said that was the way to go to prevent confusion, defuse tension and avoid any nasty clashes.

He asked that nobody should be complacent and that every effort should be made to protect the unity and security of the nation.

“We do not want Ghana to be plunged into any election disturbances experienced by other African countries.”

He urged politicians to tell the people what they would be doing differently to transform and make things better for them.

The electioneering campaign should be a contest of ideas and should not be about personality attacks and inflammatory pronouncements, he added.
