I am selling a dream of victory – Buaben Asamoa tells delegates

A leading candidate in the race for general secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Lawyer Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has told delegates that he is selling a dream of victory. Speaking to Ekow Annan on Live FM’s News Watch programme, Mr. Buaben Asamoa said he had the privilege of interacting with delegates across the country and from what they had told him, it is clear that they want to win power.

He stated that delegates were aware of what was going on in the country, particularly the fact that the Cedi is on an emergency bed. He explained that according to the delegates it is only the NPP that can govern the country and provide better living conditions for the citizens because the NPP had done it before under the Kufuor administration. He added that delegates want to win power and not only win power but win power and govern this country well.

Mr. Buaben Asamoa who has enjoyed a lot of support amongst delegates in the Western, Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and recently Eastern Region, is tipped to be the next general secretary of the NPP. Unlike his contenders, Mr. Buaben Asamoa is perceived as the unifier that the Party needs in 2016. Delegates are of the view that Mr. Buaben Asamoa is the only contender who does not belong to any of the perceived factions within the Party and therefore when given the nod, he will be able to bring both sides to the table to work together for victory in 2016.

Furthermore, Mr. Buaben Asamoa has demonstrated through his hard work in the 2012 campaign that he is more that ready to work with any person in the Party. These and many others are Mr. Buaben Asamoa’s strengths as the race tightens.

When asked how he intends to ensure that the Party wins the 2016 general elections, Mr. Buaben Asamoa stated the Party has been winning elections but had failed to make sure that it was declared the winner at the end of the day.

YB, as he is popularly referred to, explained that he would put in place the proper structures and make sure that those structures work. He stated, “The structures of the Party need to work to ensure that we win the general elections and are declared winners at the polling station. That is my message to delegates. I am selling a dream of victory.”

YB, who has been campaigning on the theme: “unity to protect the ballot,” was asked whether the current leadership, particularly the incumbent general secretary, had failed the Party; to which he responded “I cannot speak for Sir John, however, he would render account of his stewardship before the delegates on April 12 in Tamale.” Mr. Buaben Asamoa is promising delegates a dream of victory and has stated that when given the nod he will make the Party ready for victory in 2016.

Meanwhile, in an opinion poll being conducted online, YB leads the race as the preferred general secretary of the NPP. At the time of this story, YB led the online polls with 46.44%. With Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong following behind with 28.31%. Sir John and Captain Effah Darteh with 23.62% and 1.61% respectively.
