NPP jabs NDC over tribal politics

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been accused of constantly indulging in tribal politics to amass votes during general elections in the country.

Sam Pyne, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the largest opposition political party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), said “ethnocentric politics is not good for Ghana’s forward movement.”

He said the NDC strategically depend on tribal politics to ensure electoral success, cautioning that tribal politics was dangerous for Ghana’s peace and unity.

Sam Pyne therefore charged the NDC to learn from the NPP to evolve campaign based on ideas and policies to ensure the country’s progress.

He admonished the electorate to vote for competent and visionary candidates to take the country to the Promised Land.

The NPP Ashanti Regional Secretary, in an interview with Ultimate Radio in Kumasi, stated that the NDC, during the 2008 polls, informed the electorate that it was time for a Fante to become Ghana’s president.

He noted that the ruling political adopted that weird campaign strategy because its presidential candidate, the late Prof. John Evans Atta Mills was a Fante.

He said during the 2012 elections, President Mahama, a northerner, during a campaign tour in the northern part of the country, said northerners were tired of being running mates and that it was time for a person of northern extraction to become president.

Sam Pyne urged the NDC to refrain from tribal politics in future elections.

He noted that the NDC had calculatedly tagged the NPP as an Akan party or Asante party just to deny it potential votes from other tribes.

The NPP Secretary stated emphatically that the NPP, as a political party belongs to all Ghanaians.

He disclosed that the categorization by the NDC was worrisome, disclosing that the NPP was doing everything possible to correct the erroneous impression.

Commenting on the 2012 polls, the NPP guru maintained that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo won the polls “handsomely.”

He debunked reports that Nana Akufo-Addo doesn’t have the clout to win elections in the country, stressing that but for the machinations of the EC, Nana Akufo-Addo would have been president.

Sam Pyne flatly debunked speculation that some influential people in the NPP strategically urged Dr. Bawumia to represent the petitioners at the Supreme Court to help the young man take over from Nana Akufo-Addo as flagbearer for the 2016 polls.

He stated that owing to the fact the election petition was basically about figures, the petitioners deemed it prudent to allow Dr. Bawumia, who is well vested in calculations to represent them, adding that most people were impressed his performance in court.
