Mahama is a more transformational leader than Kufour was - NDC

The National Women's Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anita De Soso, has lauded President John Dramani Mahama for his early intervention to the victims of Kantamanto market, and criticized the erstwhile Kufour led administration for doing nothing to help such situations.

According to her, though the President is out of the country to open the 2nd Ordinary Session of the 3rd Parliament of the pan-African Parliament in South Africa, he has shown good leadership by ordering his vice president to visit the scene and discuss with the victims on how government can help.

“We really thank the President, though he is not around he has thought of the victims by sending his Vice President. He again has appealed to the banks to give soft loans to the victims to restart business again; this is what we call good leadership.

“…I have heard some NPP members complaining about leadership, but I guess they don’t know that every leader has their own style of governing, whether autocratic, democratic or transformational, each and every leader has their own style,” she said.

A massive fire early Sunday morning engulfed sections of the Kantamanto Market leaving millions of items destroyed.

Hours after the fire outbreak, President Mahama posted on his Facebook wall giving directives to the security agencies and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to help victims of the disaster whiles on national duty in South Africa.

“My dear countrymen and women, I have been briefed on the fire that engulfed the Kantamanto Market. VP Amissah-Arthur will be visiting the site shortly, and I have already directed the Security Agencies and NADMO to conduct preliminary needs assessment for the attention of the VP,” the President posted.

Speaking on Accra-based Adom FM, Anita De Soso noted that, the President does not just utter words he cannot fulfill unlike ex-President Kufuor who never visited any fire outbreak scene whiles in the country.

“President Mahama is a transformational President who just doesn’t talk but make sure things are done at the right time when said. During President Kufuor’s time weren’t there fire outbreaks, where was President Kufour? He never visited any of the scenes, but if President Mahama were to be around, he would be at the scene (Kantamanto Market).

“…Even at South Africa, he is willing to come down so he will visit the scene, this is the kind of President Ghanaians want. We applaud him for that,” she said.
