Young Democrats condemns threats on Supreme Court

Young Democrats, a pro NDC group has condemned Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, MP for Manhyia, for the recent threats he made on the Supreme Court during a recent interview on Okay FM.

On the recent program hosted by Kwame Nkrumah Tikese, the Manhyia MP was heard saying should any violence occur after the Supreme Court verdict on the NPP electoral challenge, the blame would lie on the Supreme Court.

Mr Carlos Albert Kojo Yeboah, Operations Director of the Young Democrats in an interview with the GNA, said it was unfair that the MP would go on air and seek to use innuendos to threaten the Justices of the Supreme Court.

He appealed to former President Kufuor, who is recognised as the leader of the NPP, to call members of his party to order and remind them on the need to watch their utterances.

Mr Yeboah said at the time of his (Kufuor) presidency there were problems, as there have always been any time elections were organised, but the prevailing peace was equally protected and all concerns including political ones were channeled through the same courts being now threatened by the MP for Manhyia.

He said it is quite well known that many politicians with similar behavioral traits as Dr Prempeh, often have nothing to offer than to foment trouble, and with their international passports they leave the country leaving many of us who do not have that chance to face the consequences of his utterances.

Mr Yeboah reminded owners of radio stations and hosts of talk shows to be mindful of their duty to the nation and ensure that seeds of anarchy and violence are not sown on their platforms.

For they, he said, would equally be held responsible should such self seeking politicians continue to abuse the ethics of the media landscape, using innuendos or direct threats to create fear, disharmony and disorder in the society.
