IDEG-CFI inaugurates national election situation room

The Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) and the Civic Forum Initiative (CFI) has inaugurated the National Elections Situations Room (ESR).

A statement signed by Dr Emmanuel Akwetey, Executive Director, IDEG, indicated that nine other Elections Situation Rooms have already been inaugurated in nine regions throughout the country.

It explained that ESR was an integral part of the work of the CFI and provided coordinated response to the challenge of protecting the integrity of the electoral process.

It said the ESR served as elections observatories, conflict mediation platforms, hubs for all information on elections, and as coordinating centres for field observation of the elections by civic society.

In addition to the ESR, regional networks of CFIs, including working groups and a taskforce of more than 1,000, have been mobilized and trained to facilitate the implementation of the CFI’s programmess in selected constituencies across all the ten regions of the country.

The statement indicated that as a broad coalition of civil society actors, the CFI drew its membership from advocacy NGOs, policy think tanks, faith-based organisations, community-based organisations, youth groups, labour organisations, gender groups and individual citizens.

A steering group, made up of the leadership of the individual coalitions and groups make up the CFI, provides leadership and direction.
