YDM sees free SHS policy as another “sakawa” promise

Young Democratic Movement (YDM), a group based in the Nadowli East Constituency, has called on voters in the area to ignore the NPP’s promise of free Senior High School (SHS), describing it as a “sakawa” promise.

The Movement, which is affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said what the constituency needed was equitable, accessible and quality SHS system but not free senior school education.

Mr. Vincent Ninkuu, Chairman of the Movement, made this known at a news conference at Fian in the Daffiama- Bussie Issa District.

He also discussed development projects facilitated by Mr. Mathias Puozaa, Member of Parliament for the constituency, and what the NDC has been able to achieve in its first term as compared to the NPP’s eight years in office.

Mr Ninkuu said the NDC within three and half years brought unprecedented development projects like connecting of electricity to over 30 communities and construction of ten CHPS compounds.

Key communities such as Bussie, Fian, Owlo, Dagubaa, Chebaa, Buoyiri Kamahegu and Wogu have all benefited from interventions like the school feeding programme, free uniforms to schools, school buildings, and adult literacy classes, sponsorship of brilliant but needy students and provision of free exercise books.

The Movement noted that the current government had also tarred some of their major roads.

They encouraged voters in the area especially the youth to rally round the sitting MP and vote massively for him and President Mahama to enable him execute the second part of the “Better Ghana Agenda”.
