Two provisional registers containing names of 1,127 registered voters are missing

There is growing anxiety and apprehension among the 1,127 voters who registered at two polling centres in the Kwabre West Constituency of the Ashanti Region over their inability to check their names on the provisional voters roll as the biometric registers for those centres are missing.

The provisional registers for Hemang near Ankaase and Afrancho, cannot be traced, five days into the exhibition.

Mr. Joshua Ofori-Prempeh, the District Electoral Officer, confirmed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and said the incident had been reported to the Ashanti Regional Office of the Electoral Commission (EC) for investigation.

He said the problem was likely to have been due to wrong coding.

He said they were doing everything to track the missing registers to allow the people in the two centres to verify their details.

Mr. Ofori-Prempeh said with the exception of that problem, all had been going smoothly with the exhibition.

The response, however, had not been enthusiastic, he added and attributed the trend to the Ghanaian attitude of always waiting until the last hour. He appealed to the people to make sure that they took advantage of the exhibition exercise to correct all anomalies in the register to avoid any difficulties on the day of voting.
