EC should ensure peaceful general elections

Apostle Dr Michael Nimo, Central Regional Territorial Apostle, Christ Apostolic Church International (CACI), on Friday called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to use all available resources to ensure an authentic voter register for peaceful elections in December.

He said Ghana was blessed to be in the league of democratic states, hence all strategies and efforts at sustaining this hard earn status by making this year’s general election free and fair and incident free are worthwhile.

Apostle Nimo, who is also the former National Chairman of the church, said this at an Easter Convention organised by the Cape Coast zone of the CACI in Cape Coast.

The convention on the theme: “That I may know Him”, was attended by members from the Elmina, Jukwa and Saltpond circuits, as part of activities to mark Easter.

Apostle Nimo expressed his disappointment at the violence and disturbances recorded at some centres of the on-going voter registration exercise and urged the EC and the Police to prosecute offenders, no matter their political affiliations.

He said it was unfortunate that some prominent politicians have taken upon themselves to engage the services of “Macho men” to manhandle innocent people who only want to register; and stressed that, Ghana was not ready to face the kind of disturbances that Ivory Coast and Liberia faced, saying politicians should act more responsibly.

Apostle Nimo was hopeful that the country would organise peaceful, free and fair elections in December and urged the presidential candidates of the various political parties to collaborate with President John Evans Atta Mills to ensure that the December polls were incident-free.

He asked all Ghanaians to be ambassadors of peace and tranquility to ensure that the December polls were free and fair devoid of violence and disturbance.

The members were taken through various topics including:”The test of knowing Him”, “Set your mind on things above”, “The power of resurrection”, “Come and see”, “Seeking the interest of God’s family” and “The responsibility of causing people to know him”.**
