Akyemmansa District Inter-Party Committee inaugurated

A 19-member Akyemmansa District Inter-Party Dialogue Committee has been inaugurated at a ceremony at Akyem Ofoase.

The committee is headed by Reverend Augustine Kyereh of the Methodist Church-Ghana, with its primary objective to provide a platform for key stakeholders to engage political parties to help achieve a free, fair, and transparent elections in December.

The committee is made up of representatives from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), New Patriotic Party (NPP), Convention People’s Party (CPP), National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), the District Assembly, media and Christian and Moslem organizations.

Others are the security agencies, traditional authorities, Electoral Commission (EC) and women’s group.

Swearing in the committee members, Mr Emmanuel Korley Akufo, a High Court Registrar, charged the members to discharge their duties effectively without fear or favor.

Mr Tom Budu, the District Chief Executive, advised the political parties to conduct their campaigns devoid of insults and acrimony and focus on what their parties could do for the people.

He said, ensuring peace did not lie with government or the committee alone, but rather it was a collective responsibility of all stakeholders.

Mr Daniel Chartey, the District Director of the NCCE said, there has been some marked improvement in successive elections since 1992 and challenged the political parties to sensitize their supporters on political parties code of conduct aimed at preventing misunderstanding, cheating and violence during the elections.

Reverend Kyereh, the Chairman of the Committee, pledged to discharge his duties without bias and appealed to all political parties to work together for peace in the coming elections.**
