Zita Okaikoi should not give us problems- NDC

The National Democratic Congress is worried fallouts from the Dome Kwabebya constituency in the just ended primaries will not augur well for party unity.

Failed parliamentary candidate for the Dome-Kwabenya seat, Mrs Zita Okaikoi is threatening to go to court to have the woman she lost the ticket to disqualified.

The former Information Minister argues the largely unknown Sophia Karen Akuaku was not qualified to contest the elections.

However, the NDC¹s deputy National Organiser, Joshua Hamidu Akamba, who has expressed surprise at Zita Okaikoi¹s reactions, says her actions can be detrimental to the party.

According to her, Zita should have followed due process if she had evidence that Madam Akuaku was an unqualified candidate; asking how she could go into a contest with a candidate she deemed unqualified.

Hamidu intimated that as far as the NDC was concerned, Sophia Akuaku was the rightfully elected candidate for the Dome Kwabenya constituency, calling on Zita Okaikoi to petition the party executives through appropriate means instead of the media.

³Did she make any effort to come to the national executives with her complaints? I am surprised Zita will be making all these noise on radio, threatening court action and all that; somebody who was once a minister. I have tried to get in touch with her to no avail. I had wanted to talk to her. It doesn¹t augur well².

³We have organized elections in places people thought we were going to have problems, we did not have any problem and she shouldn¹t be giving us problems. She should walk to our offices and we will sit down to look at how to resolve this issue rather going round on radio².

³She (Sophia Akuako) has been elected by the delegates. I don¹t know the merit and demerit of the accusation leveled against her now, but the National Executives is meeting and we will look at most of these cases. If there are any we will have to send to the conflict resolution, we will send it there and see how best they can be resolved².
