Dan Botwe sponsors young ladies to acquire skills

Koforidua, Oct 11, GNA - Mr Dan Botwe, the Member of Parliament for Okere, is sponsoring 183 girls from the area in apprenticeship to acquire skills in dressmaking, fashion and designing, bakery, hairdressing and interior decoration.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in a telephone interview on Tuesday Mr Botwe said his aim was to ensure that the girls acquired skills which could land them jobs or make them self employed after completing their training within the next two to three years. He said he was saddened by the high rate of unemployment in the constituency and gave the assurance that he ensure that majority of young people acquire skills.

Mr Botwe said the next batch of the sponsorship would go to young men who want to acquire skills in carpentry, automobile mechanic (fitting), tailoring, masonry and driving. He said all the beneficiaries were those who completed Junior High and Senior High Schools and could not further their education due to financial difficulties and added that such categories of people should not be left to their fate.

Mr Botwe said he would look for more resources to enable more people to benefit from the programme.

One of the beneficiaries, Ms Doris Agyei, commended Mr Botwe and told the GNA that some of them had completed Junior High School for more than three years, but due to financial difficulties they could not further their education.

Ms Agyei said the programme had come at the right time and added that they would complete the training to make them useful to society.
