NDC ‘World Bank’ Woes Over

As Agitating Volta Youth Drop ‘Guns’

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) must be breathing a huge sigh of relief, having jumped a major huddle last Tuesday when the agitating youth of its ‘World Bank’, the Volta region at a press conference held in the regional capital, Ho, announced their irrevocable decision to drop their ‘guns’ and reaffirmed their inflicting support for both the party and the President John Evans Atta Mills-led government.
Agitations against the government in the NDC stronghold, which were spearheaded by a youth group calling itself ‘Volta Region NDC Youth For Action’ and a traditional leader, had been a major cause of concern for the party and government.
But the youth at the press conference made it clear that “We want to emphatically assure the NDC party and its teaming supporters of our support for the party we all toiled for to clinch victory in the 2008 general election. Nothing will be done to emasculate the fortunes of this great party of ours.”
The group said it took note of the fact that some mischievous elements among opponents of the Mills-led NDC government were trying to misconstrue their agitation for a better Volta region to mean that they had armed themselves against the NDC government and were shooting it down, but said that is far from the truth.
“Agitations of the youth and our revered Traditional Leaders/Rulers in the region may be twisted as if it was against President Atta Mills and the NDC government, but this is neither here nor there. We want to state emphatically that we are not against the President HE Prof. John Evans Atta Mills,” the emphasised.
According to them, they have always stressed that the President has shown enormous goodwill, faith and commitment to the total development of Ghana in general and Volta region in particular.
It is for this reason that the group laments, what it described as, arbitrary arrests and detentions by the police of leaders of a peaceful demonstration by some concern youths of the party on August, 3, 2011 in Ho to express their legitimate concerns on the inaction and lack of vision by some of the appointees of the President in the region. They described the police action as unfortunate and uncalled for.
The Volta youth said they have the full assurance of the presidency of better things to happen to the Volta region in the coming months, for which reason they have called off an intended follow-up demonstration scheduled to rock the length and breadth of the region on October 3rd 2011.
The youth have assured the people of the Volta region that they are totally convinced the better Ghana agenda train has arrived in the region. “We are assuring them further that H.E President Mills will soon fulfil his promises and vision of setting up the HEALTH AND ALLIED SCIENCES UNIVERSITY for the people of the region. Not long from now the infrastructural development will commence, that we are sure of. Also the EASTERN CORRIDOR ROAD will soon see the light of the day,” they stressed.
“Most of you might ask why the twist of events? Yes this is necessitated because several meetings with officials from the presidency have given us the hope, assurance and encouragement for the prompt start of these projects we are anticipating for” they pointed out.
The youth have appealed to all to continue to lend support both in kind and in deed to the NDC government to successfully execute its better Ghana agenda.
