As NPP Stalwarts Foresee Bigger Danger

Should Akufo-Addo Win In 2012…

News Desk Report

“Whatever the sun fails to reveal, they say the earth will throw it out”, a popular Yuruba proverb says so.

Even though apparatchiks of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have tried very hard to submerge the truth and defend the indefensible, it is now becoming clear that they are waking up from their slumbers, hence their open confessions, making public their critical observation about their party Flagbearer, Mr. Williams Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in the unlikely event he becomes President.
The latest of doubts about the ability of Akufo-Addo to properly manage the affairs of Ghana should he become president of this republic, is the lamentation of some NPP stalwarts in their interview with the Africawatch Magazine, released by Steve Mallory this month, September, 2011.
Following the decision of the NPP Flagbearer to surround him with family members who have virtually taken over the running of his campaign against the party’s “all inclusive” ideals, the group, without mincing their words, has expressed misgivings about the competence of Akufo Addo, should he be entrusted with the destiny of the country.
According to the hard-working and loyal NPP stalwarts they wonder whether Akufo Addo’s presidency will work, since he has made his campaign team a family affair.
Expressing the frustration and worry about the composition of Akufo-Addo’s campaign team, they asked whether his presidency will be that of a Family-Members-Only making lead decisions, or one broad-based enough to dissipate the anticipated family hold on national affairs.
According to them, Nana Akufo-Addo seeks solace in his family members when he is in bad spirit because, he does not trust some of the people he is working with since they have in one platform or the other leveled accusations against him and attacking his personality during their 2007 presidential primaries; especially, with accusations of his strong addiction to drugs.
Another worried soul who spoke to the Africawatch Magazine from Ghana, precisely Accra, expressed similar reservations, questioning the rationale behind the decision of Akufo-Addo to fill his campaign with his closest of allies and family members.
“And why should it even be family members”, the operative queried. “Why not a project with talented men and women driving the NPP and its candidate to victory, and life thereafter”, he further inquired, during his conversation with the Africawatch.
“Only Akufo-Addo may have the right answer, and he knows well that nepotism and family favoritisms are cardinal sins frowned upon by Ghana’s political culture, and that any candidate wishing to win office has to avoid such tendencies”, the operative pointed he concludes.
Meanwhile, insiders say Nana Akufo-Addo’s family members who have taken over the running of his campaign, sometimes make unilateral political decisions based on emotions rather than strategy, like Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko exhibited on Newsfile last Saturday, thereby, causing unnecessary friction between the family and the campaign team.
From the sidelines , however, it is perceived by the general public that Akufo-Addo is growing tension between his family members and his campaign team; and we can count the numerous that Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko and the likes have openly come to defend their cousin to the total disagreement of some party members.
It would also be recalled that Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko in the wake of his frustrations in recent times, was not spared at all by his own party member like Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, aka Sir John, when he accused them of not projecting the image of Akufo-Addo, by explaining his policies to the populace.
