Abolish all splinter associations within NDC – Mintah

Winneba (C/R), July 25, GNA – Mr Kofi Mintah, a founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appealed to the leadership of the party to dissolve all splinter associations formed within the party in the run-up to the Sunyani delegates’ congress.

He said the associations were formed to declare their support for and mobilise votes for the candidates and said since the primary was over there was no need for such associations, which were the basis for rancour and disunity, to be maintained.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Winneba, Mr Mintah who was the First Central Regional Chairman of the party said banning such associations would ensure unity within the party as every member and supporter would regard him or herself simply as a member of NDC and not any association.

He advised members and supporters to put the congress behind them and unite for the greater task of retaining power in the 2012 general election.

Mr Mintah urged them to abide by the comment made by President John Evans Atta Mills on the primary when he said the victory was for the party but not for any individual.

He urged every member and supporter to regard his or herself as a member of the campaign team and ensure that the Better Ghana Agenda got to every hamlet in the country.

Mr Mintah appealed to the founder, former President Jerry John Rawlings to rescind his decision not to campaign for President Mills in the 2012 election.

NDC members, he said, would feel safe and secured in an NDC government than a New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration and advised all to get involved in the campaign for the party to retain power.

“Let us all bury petty differences and get involved in the campaign,” he advised.
