Mills All The Way-Faustina Nelson Declares

NDC Sunyani Congress

A former National Democratic Congress (NDC) vice chairperson, Madam Faustina Nelson has predicted that President Mills will emerge victorious at the party’s forthcoming congress scheduled for 8th -10th July in Sunyani. She noted that President Mills’ humility and respect for the good people of Ghana is unprecedented in the governance of the country, an asset that has contributed greatly to the country’s image both home and abroad.

Madam Nelson argued that President Mills is a serious-minded person who will not take Ghanaians for granted in the pursuit to implement policies and programmes to enhance the socio-economic well being of the people, “a leadership style needed to transform this country,” she stated.

The President’s humility and posture, she said has created a peaceful economic and political atmosphere to boost confidence of Ghanaians in whatever endeavour they operate. “I doubt if there is any Ghanaian who is afraid of the political situation today.” She averred.

In an interview with the Daily Democrat about the party’s presidential contest, she disclosed that the achievements of President Mills since assuming office is convincing enough for NDC delegates to endorse him to continue leading the party to win the 2012 general elections to serve the country for a second term. She stressed that he deserves to lead the party because the massive infrastructure developments across the length and breadth of the country under his better Ghana agenda are visible for all to see.

She reminded delegates that it will be a great disservice to party and country not to give President Mills the mandate to lead the NDC to victory in 2012. She rejected criticisms that Nana Konadu’s challenge means the President is incompetent and argued that the critics are wrong in their conclusions because the country has not witnessed this phenomenon before.

According to her, they should rather see it as demonstration of President Mills’ commitment to strengthening the internal tenets of the party’s democracy. The former NDC vice-chairperson pointed out that there is a precedence in Nigeria where the sitting President, Jonathan Goodluck was challenged by his own (PDP) party members for the flagbearership, which he won before winning the national elections to become president.

Madam Nelson noted that individual supporters or groups who may be offended by certain utterances from opponents during the contest, should ensure that there are no blame games after the contest but should instead work together in unity towards victory 2012.

She urged all to forget the past and work together saying, After all a win for Professor Mills at the congress is a win for NDC and development for Ghanaians.” Madam also encouraged the aspirants for the flagbearership position to accept the outcome of the congress in good faith and work as a team to win the 2012 general elections to continue to serve the good people of mother Ghana. She called for peaceful and incident free election and urged all NDC supporters to come out of congress more united and stronger than ever.

She indicated that President Mills respects and sees Ghanaians as human beings who are God’s creations and is prepared to serve them, adding that his posture has created an atmosphere of peace, thereby putting Ghanaians at ease.
