Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has weighed in on the debate over the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections.

He has rejected claims that seek to place the blame for the party's electoral loss squarely on its national executives.

According to Ofosu Nkansah, although there may have been challenges with the management of the party, the NPP's defeat was largely driven by difficult but necessary government decisions that made the party unpopular.

In a social media post shared on August 29, 2026, he argued that the party's national executives should not be made to shoulder most of the blame.

"We may have had some issues of party management with our current National executives but it's most unfair to blame them for our 2024 defeat," he said.

Ofosu Nkansah identified government policies, including the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), the Electronic Levy (E-Levy) and the betting tax, as among the major factors that contributed to the party's defeat.

"The top reasons for our defeat were Government decisions (DDEP, E-levy, Betting tax etc) and attitude of Appointees. Party executives shouldn't take more than 20% of the blame," he stated.

He argued that once a government becomes unpopular, even the most effective party leadership would struggle to prevent an electoral defeat.

"If a Government becomes unpopular, even if the Messiah is your Chairman or GS, you will still lose," he added.

The former NEIP CEO further maintained that some of the unpopular decisions were necessary to prevent the collapse of the economy, particularly in the wake of global economic challenges.

"Government had to take those tough decisions like DDEP to avoid complete collapse of the Economy partly because of global crisis and we got punished for them," Ofosu Nkansah said.

His comments come amid ongoing discussions within the NPP over the factors that contributed to the party's loss in the 2024 general elections and the lessons the party must draw as it seeks to return to power.
