Popular broadcaster and media personality Afia Pokuaa has publicly rebuked Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, over comments he made during an ongoing social media exchange with the Special Aide to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Akosua Manu, describing the remarks as offensive and potentially damaging to his political future.
The controversy stems from a heated online back-and-forth between the Ashanti Regional Minister and Akosua Manu, popularly known as Kozie, after the NPP communicator criticised the Minister over comments directed at the opposition party’s leadership.
The exchange escalated after Akosua Manu mocked the Minister’s dressing style and advised him to prompt his tailor to give allowance to his clothes, stressing that the Ashanti Region is saddled with a lot of developmental problems to have a regional minister who spends the majority of his time on social media.
Dr Amoakohene responded in Twi with a disparaging remark, a statement that quickly generated backlash online, with many social media users accusing the Minister of using inappropriate and sexist undertones.
Reacting to the development in a Facebook post, Afia Pokuaa condemned the Minister’s remarks and urged him to delete the post immediately.
“Oh No! Ashanti Regional Minister, the way I'm invested in your success, eh? Acts like this are not only offensive but will derail your political future,” she wrote.
The broadcaster further argued that such comments discourage women from actively participating in politics and public discourse.
“Women don't want to be part of politics because of offensive attacks like these,” she stated, adding that politics should never push public officials beyond acceptable limits of decency.
Afia Pokuaa also questioned the timing and appropriateness of the comments, particularly at a time when the Minister’s family was celebrating the birth of a child.
“Please delete this post. It is utterly offensive and needless. Politics should never make us cross some lines, irrespective of provocation, especially in a normal political debate,” she added.
The incident has since triggered widespread criticism of the regional minister across social media platforms, with critics calling on him to maintain civility and professionalism in public engagements, especially on digital platforms.
