The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority, Edudzi Tameklo,
has expressed confidence that the party will ultimately rally behind a single presidential candidate when the time comes to select a flagbearer.
Speaking on TV3's Keypoints on May 23, 2026, he said the NDC has, since 1992, developed a “unique way” of selecting its leaders, often resulting in broad acceptance of whoever emerges as flagbearer.
He cited past leadership transitions, including former President Jerry John Rawlings and President John Dramani Mahama, arguing that although some of these figures faced internal contests, they eventually received strong endorsements from the party.
“As late as 2019, President Mahama was seriously contested, even by respected members of the party, but he still secured overwhelming endorsement,” he noted,
Edudzi Tameklo stressed that leadership selection in the NDC follows a pattern where, despite early debates or disagreements, a consensus candidate eventually emerges and receives full backing.
He further explained that electoral success depends on what he described as the “three M’s”: Message, Messenger, and Machinery saying all three must align for a political party to win elections.

“In every election, there are three things that matter: your message, the messenger, and the machinery,” he said.
According to him, the NDC remains focused on strengthening its message, organisational structure, and leadership ahead of future elections.
He said that when the time is due, a leader will emerge with the full support of the party.
