Ghanaian journalist Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu, popularly known as KOKA, has called on critics, particularly social media users and TikTok content creators, to exercise restraint when commenting on national leadership.

Speaking in a recent interview shared on social media following his involvement in advocacy efforts that contributed to the release of the Bono Regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe Abronye, popularly known as Abronye DC, over his detention by the Adentan Circuit court, KOKA said public debate must be guided by responsibility and awareness of consequences.

KOKA, who is also a member of the NPP, emphasised that John Dramani Mahama was legitimately elected as President of the Republic and should be accorded due respect regardless of personal or political differences.

“There is one fundamental thing we need to get right, no matter what, John Dramani Mahama was elected as president… No matter the circumstances, show him that respect. He didn’t come there with a gun. He is the president.”

He cautioned that such criticism must remain measured and responsible.

“You can criticise him, you can say what you want but you should be guarded, say things that tomorrow, when a foreigner repeats them, you will not feel guilty.”

He called for restraint from security agencies, urging them not to overreach in dealing with individuals expressing controversial opinions.
