The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed strong disappointment over the sudden reassignment of the bail application of its Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC.

The party described the last-minute change of court as “mind-boggling” and alleged that it forms part of deliberate “judicial gymnastics” intended to frustrate the legal process.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the party was taken by surprise when it was informed that the case had been transferred to another court.

“After a few minutes, our lawyer, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, informed us that, surprisingly, the case had been moved from the court to which it had officially been assigned to a different court, to our dismay,” he said.

“And indeed, as of Friday, we were aware that the docket had been sent to Criminal Court Two. So why the case was moved to a different court is something that is mind-boggling,” the General-Secretary said.

He continued, “We are aware that this forms part of the gymnastics within the system to frustrate the bail application. Be that as it may, the registrar, Somutu, decided to move the case to a different court on the grounds that the initial allocation was an error.”

“How can the electronic allocation of a case be an error? And in attempting to correct that error, the registrar manually reassigned the case to a different court,” he questioned.

Despite the development, the NPP’s legal team proceeded with the hearing in the newly assigned court.

“However, guided by the principle of due process, our lawyer and the team proceeded to the new court, which is General Jurisdiction Court Two,” he stated.

The development comes amid ongoing legal proceedings involving Abronye DC, who was remanded into custody following his arrest over comments he allegedly made about a judge.
