The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has disclosed that he has always advocated for the party to undertake its ongoing “thank you tour” as a collective effort rather than an individual initiative by the National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.

In an interview with Accra-based ChannelOne TV on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, Gbande addressed the tour currently being undertaken by the National Chairman.

“The National Chairman said he was doing his thank-you tour. My opinion has always been that we could have done it together, but he is doing it because everybody is busy,” Gbande stated.

The remarks come amid Asiedu Nketiah’s nationwide thank you tour, aimed at expressing gratitude to party supporters, delegates, and executives following his assumption of the chairmanship position and the party’s performance in the 2024 general elections.

The decision by some NDC elders to be quiet is dangerous - Mustapha Gbande

In the same interview, Gbande said that some elders of the NDC have decided to be silent on issues, and he believes that is more dangerous for the party.

According to him, the party and the government need to return to the elders and bring everyone on board before it is too late for the party.

He added that if this is done, the party and the government will be able to achieve goals together.

“We have elders of the party and we need to run back to them because they have decided to keep quiet and that is dangerous for every political party. So we should bring everybody back, sit as a party and government, move concurrently and make sure we succeed together,” he stated.
