Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) when nominations open.

In a statement released on April 9, 2026, Dr Abdul-Hamid said his decision follows persistent calls from grassroots supporters urging him to bring his experience and strategic insight to the party’s national leadership.

“I hereby formally announce my decision to vie for the position of National Vice Chairman when nominations open,” he said.

He stressed that his ambition is motivated by a commitment to serve rather than personal gain.

“This is not an ambition born of personal gain, but a desire to give back to the party what it has invested in me,” he noted.

Why Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid has sworn to campaign against his son's political ambition

Dr Abdul-Hamid traced his long-standing involvement with the party back to its formative years, recalling his participation in the transition from the Danquah-Busia Club to the NPP in 1992, as well as, his role as a founding member of the University of Cape Coast branch.

Over the years, he has held several key positions within the party, including contests for National Organizer in 2001 and General Secretary in 2005.

He also served as spokesperson for former President Nana Akufo-Addo for a decade and later as Deputy National Campaign Manager during the 2020 elections.

Reflecting on his political journey, Dr Abdul-Hamid acknowledged both victories and setbacks.

“I have been forged in the fire of battle. I have won some and lost some. I have the scars to show,” he said.

He expressed confidence in his ability to support party leadership and contribute meaningfully at the highest level.
