Former Ashanti Regional executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have expressed deep appreciation to Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, describing him as “obi dom bie” in recognition of what they say is his consistent generosity and support for party members.
A leading member of the group, Kwabena Nsenyire, said the former executives are grateful for Dr Opoku Prempeh’s welfare interventions and leadership, which he noted have positively impacted many members of the party over the years.
Nsenyire made these remarks after he, together with some former executives, paid a courtesy visit to Dr Opoku Prempeh at his office in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Mr Nsenyire paid glowing tribute to the NPP’s 2024 Vice-Presidential Candidate, praising him for what he described as exceptional commitment to the welfare of party members.
According to him, Dr Opoku Prempeh personally supported many party members by paying medical bills prior to the party’s presidential primaries and has continued to support members’ welfare needs.
In appreciation of his continuous support and leadership, Mr Nsenyire disclosed that the former executives have requested Dr Opoku Prempeh to serve as their patron, a request he said was warmly accepted.
He added that the group has also conferred on him the title “obi dom bie” to signify their recognition of his generosity and dedication to members.
Mr Nsenyire further noted that former executives are now part of the party’s delegate structure.
He explained that the move followed a proposal championed by Dr Opoku Prempeh and some party leaders, which was later approved by the party’s Congress.
He said the decision reflects the party’s recognition of the continued value former executives bring to its growth and internal strength.
Nsenyire also called on the party’s National Executives to formally engage former executives with a clear mandate to support ongoing reorganisation and unity-building efforts.
He stressed that former executives remain relevant and ready to play active roles to help strengthen internal cohesion and reposition the party for future electoral success.
He also urged all former campaign teams across various internal party camps to dissolve their structures and unite in the interest of the party.
“As elders of the party, we can help bring all factions together so we can focus on our common political opponent and work collectively towards returning the party to power,” he said.
