The Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko, has jumped to the defence of the Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin over the backlash on his (Afenyo-Markin’s) actions during ministerial vetting on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
The Minority Leader, who is the MP for Effutu, is being heavily criticised by a section of the public over his actions and utterances at the Appointment Committee sitting.
Afenyo-Markin, who is the ranking member of the committee, is particularly being lambasted for asking the Attorney General and Minister of Justice-designate, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, to demonstrate the ‘akpai’ dance of the people of the Volta Region during his vetting.
But John Darko has asserted that there is nothing wrong with the Minority Leader's ask.
He argued that Afenyo-Markin was only asking the minister-designate to portray his culture and that there is nothing wrong with that.
He said the Effutu legislator wanted the people of Ghana to know the person who will become their deputy attorney general.
“Afenyo-Markin’s dance request was to help Ghanaians know Srem-Sai,” the Suame MP is quoted to have said in a post shared by Citi FM.
