Joyce Bawah Mogtari, special aide to President John Mahama, has commended the government’s recent decision to reduce the number of ministries from 30 to 23, describing it as a step in the right direction while emphasizing the need for tangible results.

Speaking on TV3’s The Keypoints with Alfred Ocansey, Mogtari stated,
“When you have a very large and amorphous government machinery, it creates dissatisfaction. Citizens were expecting this reduction, and it aligns with their aspirations.”

She noted that while the move signals a commitment to efficiency, it must be accompanied by measurable outcomes.

“The reduction in the number of ministers is a great first step, but it cannot end there. There must be clear indicators demonstrating how this improves efficiency and reduces waste,” she said.

Mogtari also urged civil society to actively hold the government accountable.

“Ghanaians are watching closely, and civil society must play its role as a watchdog. The ORAL Committee must ensure the government delivers on its promises,” she added.

She further emphasised the importance of cultivating a culture of service in leadership.

“This is not just about reducing numbers; it’s about fostering ethical leadership. People must understand that taking office means serving the people, not enriching themselves,” Mogtari stressed.

Concluding her remarks, she highlighted the high expectations of Ghanaians, who are quick to recognize hard work and genuine service.

“This reduction in ministerial appointments signals our commitment to efficient governance, but it must be followed by results,” she remarked.
