CPP to fix date for election of national officers

Accra, Nov. 4, GNA - The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Convention People's Party (CPP) would meet on November 25, 2010 to, among other things, approve a date and procedures for the next Congress to elect national officers.

In a statement in Accra on Thursday, the CPP also spelt out the rules of engagement to guide all members seeking to contest for leadership positions.

The statement signed by Mr William Dowokpor, Director of Communications, said no aspirants for any party positions or presidential candidature should engage in any organizational activities outside of the party's approved programme of work and directions.

"All persons who wish to support organization of the party should do so through the party's existing structures at National, Regional and Constituency levels."

The statement said the National leadership expressly forbade any member from organizing alternative structures within the party, unauthorized issuance of party cards of any kind and unauthorized collection of membership dues.

It said the dates and procedures for commencement of campaigns for party positions including presidential candidature would be announced following the NEC meeting on November 25.

"The Central Committee will view with utmost seriousness and without exception deal severely with any persons that contravene and or attempt to undermine policy positions, statements and guidelines issued for contesting party positions and presidential candidature, the statement said.
