Ashanti NPP says primaries will be free and open

Kumasi, July 16, GNA - The Ashanti Regional Executive of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has calmed any nagging anxiety about the fairness of the party's up-coming presidential primaries in the region, saying, adequate measures had been put in place to make the poll transparent and credible.
A press statement signed by the Regional Secretary, Mr Samuel Pyne, said everything was under firm control and that there was no cause for anyone to become uneasy.
The assurance comes barely 72 hours after four of the aspiring candidates had raised questions about the openness of the party's electoral process.
The statement said the regional party officers, constituency and the national election committees and representatives of the candidates had held discussions to address all concerns.
Again, the constituency albums for the August 7 election had been opened for validation and invited the candidates to nominate their agents for the exercise.
It called on members of the party to co-operate and support the leadership to make the poll a big success.
