NDC youth urged to elect selfless leaders

Koforidua, Dec. 22, GNA - The Deputy National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Ludwig Hlodze, has appealed to the youth of the party to elect leaders who would ensure that the party took care of their aspirations.

He was speaking at the Eastern Regional Youth Delegates' Conference of the NDC in Koforidua on Monday to elect the regional youth organizer of the party.

A re-run became necessary after last week's election at the Afram Plains ended in a stalemate. Mr Hlodze urged the youth to ensure that all elections for women and youth wings of the party were conducted in a peaceful environment so that at the end the unity of the party would be maintained. Mr Hlodze said the current rancour between the party and government was due to ineffective party structure and appealed to the youth leaders to ensure that an effective platform was created for regular interaction between the youth and leadership of the party and members of government to share the concern of the youth. When Mr Kudjo Adukpo was called to address the delegates, he announced that he was stepping down for the incumbent for the sake of unity of the party.

He said he cherished the party and would not like it to be divided as a result of the election. Mr Adukpo called on the leadership of the party to come out with a system that would ensure that people who offered themselves for election are accessed by their performance and not vilified to help build strong tradition for succession. An elated Kweku Asamoah, the incumbent, promised to work hand in hand with Mr Adukpo for the maturity he demonstrated to ensure that the region built a strong regional youth wing.
