Ashanti NDC Youth Organiser joins chairmanship race

Kumasi, Dec. 11, GNA - The Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has joined the contest for the party's regional Chairmanship position. Mr Yaw Owusu Obimpeh told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi that he would inject more dynamism into the party that has traditionally aligned with the opposition New Patriotic Party. He said having served as Youth Organiser for more than a-decade-and-a-half he had better understanding and knew the political terrain of Ashanti Region very well.

"I have been in the trenches with our hard working foot soldiers all this period and I am going to work with them to substantially increase the NDC share of votes in election 2012." Mr Obimpeh said under his watch, there would be teamwork and that the party's structures at all levels would be made functional to ensure vigorous membership drive.

Asked about his chances, he said he was confident of victory, adding that he is not in any doubt that his hard work, dedication and loyalty to the party would be his trump card. He is in the race with four others, Mr Frank Osei-Mensah, former Regional Chairman, Mohammed Sani, incumbent Vice Chairman, Dan Anomah, a former PNDC District Secretary, and T.K Baba of the Asawase Constituency. They have all formally filed their nomination.
