Akwatia Youth appeals to EC and Police to live up to expectation

Akwatia, Aug 17, GNA - The Akwatia Youth Association has appealed to the Electoral Commission (EC) and the police to live up to expectation by being fair

and firm to ensure peace in the Akwatia Parliamentary re-run election. They appealed to the EC to maintain its reputation of impartiality in the execution of its duties and said well- trained polling officers who had no political

affiliation should be made to man the six polling stations. Speaking to the press at Akwatia the Chairman of the association, Mr Ebenezer Okyere, urged the police to deal firmly with any act of lawlessness. He said in order to prevent intimidation and violence security should be beefed up to the maximum to be able to contain any ugly situation that might arise. Mr Okyere advised the youth of the town to realize that Akwatia was the only town they have so they should not do anything to soil its name. He advised the youth not to get involved in any disorder but to support the EC and the police and should refrain from any acts of provocation and violence. Mr Okyere appealed to the parliamentary candidates in the August 18 election to advise their supporters to exhibit good behaviour to ensure peace at Akwatia.
