Greater Accra NDC commends assemblies for confirming MMDCEs

Accra, May 6, GNA - The Greater Accra Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Wednesday commended assemblies that have confirmed the President's nominees and expressed dismay at those that have rejected other nominees. In a statement signed by Mr Richard Quashigah, Regional Communications/Propaganda Secretary, the regional secretariat noted that the Tema Metropolitan, Dangme East, Ashaiman, Adenta, Ledzokuku/Krowor and Ga West assemblies had confirmed the President's nominees and commended them for their action.

It said the regional executive was, however, dismayed that in Ga East, Ga South and Dangme West, the nominees could not poll the required two-thirds of support needed. "It is the hope of the regional executive that in the next round of voting in these three constituencies, which comes off on May 12, 2009, the assembly members will hugely endorse the President's nominees in the interest of the development agenda of government." The regional assembly also urged members of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to vote massively for the President's nominee, Mr Alfred Vanderpuje, during confirmation on Thursday. "The Accra Metropolis will be in great denial of a remarkable and rare human resource for effective and rapid development and positive transformation in the most unlikely event the assembly members fail to endorse Mr Vanderpuje."

The statement said the regional secretariat was "anxious" to see Mr Vanderpuje to get to work in order to implement the practical, realistic concepts he espouses to ensure job creation, rid the city of filth and the chaotic human and vehicular traffic situation in the metropolis. 6 May 09
