Asebu Assembly fails to endorse nominee; Mfantsiman gives the nod

Abura-Dunkwa (C/R), May 5, GNA - The President's nominee for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK), Madam Aba Edusah, on Monday failed to secure the two-thirds majority required to clinch the position as the district chief executive for the area.

After the balloting, supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC), Madam Edusah, 52, a Senior High School tutor, who needed 29 of the 42 members present, to get the nod, secured 26 votes. She would be given a second chance after 10 days and if she fails, the President would have to make fresh nomination.

In a brief speech after the balloting, Madam Edusah said all was not lost since she was not rejected outright, adding that she would do her homework well to ensure her endorsement in the second round. Earlier, the assembly elected Ms Aba Hagan, a teacher and an assembly member of Abura Gyabankrom, as its presiding member. The Central Regional Minister, Madam Ama Benyiwa-Doe, had asked members to eschew divisive tendencies and consider the development of the area paramount because it was lagging behind.

At the Mfantsiman District Assembly, Mr Henry Kweku Hayfron, 41, a tutor at the OLA Training College, was confirmed for the position as he polled 65 votes of the 69 cast by members present.

He thanked the President for the honour done him and the members for their massive support and pledged to work hard to develop the area. Madam Benyiwa-Doe noted that there was an enormous task ahead of the DCEs and therefore needed the support of all members and heads of department as well as the citizenry.
