Sekondi-Takoradi residents hail President Mills

Takoradi, Jan. 8, GNA - Some residents of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis on Wednesday expressed their joy at the swearing into office of Professor John Evans Atta Mills as the President of Ghana. They said this has ended tension, anxiety and fear that had gripped some people including those in business.

Mr. John Kyeremeh, a civil servant in Takoraadi told GNA on Wednesday that the pledge by President Mills to be the father of all Ghanaians was in the right direction. He said such a move could help unite the country to facilitate national development.

Mr Kyeremeh stressed that "Our new President was not elected to serve only a fraction of the society nor any particular political party, if he becomes fair, objective and all-embracing, then, Ghanaians will give him all the needed support to continue the works of the previous administration". He said it would be good for President Mills to continue all uncompleted projects and schemes of the previous government.

Mr Kyeremeh Parliament for electing Mrs Joyce Bamford-Addo as the first female Speaker of Parliament and that it was a positive development for the country, which other African countries must emulate. He said the election would also encourage girls to learn hard and aspire for key political positions. Mr. Kyeremeh urged all MPs support the Speaker to enable her work effectively.

Mr. Emmanuel Mintah, also a civil servant in the metropolis, called on Ghanaians to support the President to move the country forward. Madam Augustina Durban, a Secretary in the metropolis, said the change in governance indicated the preparedness of Ghanaians to demand accountability.

Mr Raymond Ketorglo, a businessman in the area, said change of government was the best thing that a nation should have. He said "When we talk of change what comes to mind is accountability and this is what Ghanaians will demand from its leaders at all times". He said the election of a female Speaker would help to bridge the gender gap in the country. Mr. Ketorglo urged Ghanaian women to continue their meaningful contribution to national development.
