Brong-Ahafo Regional Secretariat of DPP pledge support for Nana Akufo-Addo

Sunyani(BAR), Dec. 21, GNA - Brong-Ahafo Regional Secretariat of Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) has pledged its support for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate in the December 28 Presidential run-off.

Mr Philip Owusu Achiaw, Brong-Ahafo Regional Treasurer and Spokesman of the Party addressing a press conference in Sunyani said it would be "politically disastrous and economically suicidal" for Ghanaians not to vote for Nana Akufo-Addo because the country's economic foundation laid and the take-off required continuation of NPP's governance.

"If Ghanaians make a political mistake to vote for National Democratic Congress (NDC), the country's social-economic development would be reversed," Mr Achiaw added.

He explained that the DPP's decision to support Nana Akufo-Addo was informed by the need for the NPP Government to continue with the nation's governance for political and economic stability. "Ghana has not progressed economically enough since she attained independence due to political instability. It is wrong for anyone or group to clamour for a change of government now," he said. Mr Achiaw pointed out that developed countries like United States of America were economically "very stable" and could afford to effect a change of government without halting and reversing their economic growth.

"Ghana cannot afford to do that because a change of government must be done when there is the need for it, it is not necessary for Ghana now in view of the unprecedented socio-economic strides President Kufuor-led NPP Government has achieved for the country," Mr Achiaw said. Nana Amoafo Antwi, Brong Ahafo Regional Chairman of the Party, denied that the Party's decision was based on self interest, stressing: "We are committed and dedicated enough to campaign for Nana Akufo-Addo to win the run-off".

He explained that the Party's support was not merely verbal and sectional but involved the entire members in the Region. Mr Dan Kwaku Botwe, Member of Nana Akufo-Addo's Campaign Team for Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo Regions told newsmen that the decision by DPP was not fake but genuine. He explained that the Party's support was significant to contribute in no small measure for Nana Akufo-Addo's victory in the run-off.
