EC deploys personnel in Volta Region for registration exercise

Ho, July 31, GNA - The Electoral Commission will deploy 1,081 personnel in the Volta Region during the 11-day limited registration exercise that began on Thursday.

The exercise is for those who have attained the voting age of 18 or those who have never registered, Ms Laurentia Kpatakpa, Volta Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, told the GNA in an interview. She said the exercise would take place in 259 registration centres throughout the region.

Mrs Kpatakpa said whereas there would be fixed registration centres in the urban areas, registration teams would be on the move in the rural areas where the problem of distance and transportation difficulties could prevent many eligible voters from travelling to the district capitals to register. She said political parties and chiefs have been contacted to help inform the people especially rural communities about the exercise. Ms Kpatakpa said adequate financial arrangements have been made for the payment of allowances, transport and travel expenses of the registration teams.

She said those who have lost their voter identity cards would be eligible to register for new ones only after thorough screening. Ms Kpatakpa said those who have moved from where they were originally registered would be given the opportunity to apply for the transfer of their votes 21 days to the December election.
