Wife of NPP presidential aspirant appeals to losing aspirants

Kumasi, June 26, GNA - Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, wife of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, has appealed to all losing presidential hopefuls to mobilize their followers to support her husband to guarantee him a landslide victory in the upcoming general election. She has also called on losing parliamentary hopefuls to bury their differences and come together to build a formidable party while also urging the party's women folk to be good ambassadors of the good works of the NPP government to bring in more people to the party. Mrs. Akufo-Addo was addressing a meeting of identifiable women groups drawn from the Kumasi Metropolis and some party faithful as part of her five-day campaign tour of the Metropolis.

There were representatives of the Association of the Blind and Physically Challenged, Women Ministries of the Anglican, Methodist and Presbyterian churches, the Women's Aglow, the Ladies Clubs of the CEPS, Judicial Service, Fire Service, Ghana Telecom, CHRAJ, among others. Mrs. Akufo-Addo said the government had laid a firm foundation for Ghana's economy and that her husband is a strategist who can successfully lead the country to economic independence.

She promised to articulate and effectively champion the cause of women when Nana Akufo-Addo becomes the next President.

The Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Osei-Assibey Antwi and the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Madam Patricia Appiagyei, took turns to address the participants on some of the government's achievements in the Ashanti Region.

These include road construction, educational and health facilities. They all urged eligible voters to take advantage and register when the Electoral Commission opens the voters' register in order to qualify to vote in the December elections.

Earlier, Mrs. Akufo-Addo and her campaign team had toured and interacted with traders at the Kumasi Central Market and also met the various market queens. 26 June 08
