Don't pressurise us over Effia-Kwesiminstim - Ankomah

Takoradi, May 19-GNA-Nobody should pressurise the Regional or National executives to vet a Parliamentary aspirant for the Effia Kwesiminstim constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), says regional chairman. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in an interview on Monday, Nana Owusu-Ankomah, Western Regional chairman of the NPP said the leadership would follow laid down procedures and choose an aspirant for the constituency but it would not be coerced or intimidated by anyone. He said Effia Kwesiminstim has a sitting Member of Parliament whose mandate would expire in December 2008 but the deadline for the filing of nominations is in November.

He said the agitation by a group calling itself concerned were not justifiable and would not intimidate the leadership of the NPP. Nana Ankomah said the delay in vetting the constituency was as a result of petition received by the vetting committee and until a thorough investigation had been done, the vetting cannot take place.

He therefore appealed to all party supporters and members to be tolerant and allow the national to work without any pressure. Mr. Kwesi K. Sam, Regional Secretary said the National Secretariat of the NPP was expected to announce a final date for the vetting soon.

Three aspirants are vying for the nomination and they are mr. Joe Baidoo-Ansah, the incumbent, John Davies and Nana Kofi Coomson. 19 May 08
