NPP Elects Candidates for Bolgatanga and Zebilla

Bolgatanga, April 30, GNA- Delegates of the New Patriotic Party from the Bolgatanga Constituency on Wednesday elected Madam Mercy Alima Musah, a professional teacher as the party's Parliamentary Candidate to contest for the seat for the 2008 parliamentary elections. Out of the five people who contested for the post, Madam Alima polled 49 votes to beat them all.

Those who lost were Mr. Rockson Ayine Bukari, a former Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, 31 votes, Dr. Gyesika Adombire Agambila, a former Deputy Minister of Finance, 30 votes, Mr. Emmanuel Abugre Abole, a lecturer of the University of Cape Cost 15 votes.

The rest were Mr. Emmanuel Abagre Atinga, a former National Fire Service Officer, 10 votes and Mr. Joseph Ameyuure a Presiding Member for the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly 6 votes.

Madam Alima thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in her and pledged to work harder to enable the party capture the seat in the constituency. She appealed to the delegates to redouble their efforts to win more people to the party to enable it capture the forthcoming general election.

The others who contested with her, promised to support her to her win the seat in the constituency. Mrs. Agnes Chigabatia, Upper East Deputy Regional Minister, cautioned the delegates not to allow in-house petty squabbles to divide them but to be focused in working in the interest of the total victory of the party.

In another development, in Zebilla in the Upper East Region, Mr. Moses Appiah Abare, a former District Chief Executive for Bawku West District polled 89 votes to beat his contestant, Mr. Mahami Salifu, a former Upper East Regional Minister who had 17 votes.
