Osafo urges CPP activists to embark on intensive membership drive

Kumasi, Nov. 08, GNA - Dr Kwaku Osafo, a flag bearer aspirant of Convention Peoples' Party (CPP) has called on activists of the party to embark on an intensive and extensive membership drive nation-wide. He said this was the only way the party could be viable to win the 2008 election and rescue Ghanaians from their present socio-economic predicament.

Addressing delegates from various constituencies in the Ashanti Region in Kumasi on Wednesday to brief them on his vision and solicit their votes at the Party's National Delegates Conference this month, he said CPP was the vehicle for the total transformation of the country. He said "through national self-reliance and mass mobilization, the Party could harness talents of Ghanaians to provide for the basic needs and eliminate poverty, squalor and diseases from the society".

"I want to build a nation which is industrialised with knowledge-based indigenous expertise in science, information communication technology, medicine, environment and philosophy. "I want to restore the spirit of self-confidence in the people with the 'I-can-do-it-attitude', so that Ghana and Africa can feed, clothe, house, educate and care for citizens as well as contribute to world culture and civilization," he added.

Dr Osafo observed that any serious leader for Ghana and Africa's renaissance should reassert the spirit of dignity and self-confidence adding "this spirit would liberate us from imitation and imitativeness and surge our creativity and genius as Africans". He noted that since the nation's problems were systemic, there was the need for the CPP flag bearer aspirants seeking for power to cleanse themselves and make the collective dignity of Ghanaians their prime objective.

Dr Osafo said education would be his priority adding, "our culture is very important at all levels". 08 Nov. 07
