I am the best candidate to lead NPP - Akufo-Addo

Hohoe, Oct. 12, GNA - Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, a presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Wednesday said he is the best candidate to build upon President John Agyekum Kufuor's image as an icon of democratic governance in contemporary Ghana and Africa. Nana Akufo-Addo said he deserved the mantle of leadership as a "true blue" (NPP man) to continue with the good works of President Kufuor.

Nana Akufo-Addo said these when he met constituency executives, polling station chairmen, party stalwarts and opinion leaders from Hohoe-North, Hohoe-South and North Dayi constituencies at Hohoe. He said as former Foreign Minister and Minister of Justice he was privileged to share in President Kufuor's credentials as an astute and shrewd politician and manager, shoulders above his contemporaries and thus most qualified to lead the party to victory in the 2008 presidential elections.

He said being in opposition was an uncomfortable experience and that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would capitalize on any mistake by the NPP to free themselves from the bitterness of working in opposition.

"Joining a winsome party is sweet, but we got to where we are today after several years in opposition in bitterness, incarcerations and being chased into exile, which is the NPP story", Nana Akufo-Addo reminisced.

He said the electorate rejected any politicians who had tribal and religious inclinations, which were recipes for destabilization, disintegration and destruction of the country's social order. Nana Akufo-Addo pledged to address the party-government dichotomy when given the mantle to lead the party.
