Brong Ahafo inaugurates Aliu campaign club

Berekum (B/A), Sept. 2 GNA - The Brong Ahafo Regional branch of Club A 600, a group campaigning for Vice President Aliu Mahama's bid for the Presidential slot of the NPP was inaugurated at Berekum at the weekend.

The ceremony was attended by delegates from all the constituencies in the region and the Brong Ahafo branch is the first of seven others to be inaugurated throughout the country. Addressing the members of the club and the delegates, Mr. Stephen D. Larbi, national president of the club urged the leadership of the NPP to draw up comprehensive plans and strategies for the party's electioneering campaign towards total victory in 2008. He explained that the club was formed by a group of 600 NPP party faithful delegates and businessmen "who have so much love, faith and respect for the Vice President and who after careful analysis and research realized that he is the man for the job".

Mr. Larbi stressed that Vice President Mahama's hard work and popularity had won many hearts, including the opposition parties "who are praying that we get someone else instead of him to lead the party because they know that with him they stand no chance". "We all attest to the fact that he is a symbol of unity and nationalistic appeal; also the most marketable candidate with strong advantage to win the seat for the party. He is the most popular among the aspirants and you don't need too much to market such a person", the national president said.

Mr. Larbi urged current and new members of the club to campaign for the Vice President with total commitment and honesty and to avoid libelous or unhealthy statements against other aspirants, adding, "His Excellency would prefer that you do the campaign peacefully and in a friendly manner".

"We need someone with experience, commitment, compassion, firmness and a strong appeal to the electorate, including the floating voter to lead us to victory and also to continue what the NPP government under the leadership of President Kufour is doing", he said. The national president emphasized that the club members "may not see a huge display of wealth and flamboyancy to buy your votes, but we are on course", adding that the intention of the leadership of the club for members was in the long-term and not to buy them off. Mr. Larbi later inaugurated an eight-member executive for the regional branch of the club with Mr. Nnuro Bediako of Berekum as the regional chairman.

He, on behalf of the national executive of the club, presented a saloon car to the regional branch for its campaigns.
