CPP extends party term of some of its branches

Accra, Aug 7, GNA - The Central Committee of the Convention People's Party (CPP) on Tuesday said it had extended the term of office of some of its constituencies and regional executives to enable them complete their work as stipulated in the constitution.

A statement signed by Dr Nii Noi Dowuona, General Secretary of the party, said the decision was taken at the party's regular meeting in Accra on July 31, to deliberate on session reports from the region in respect of organization and elections at the wards and constituency levels.

The statement also entreated all regional and constituency branches to ensure that organization and election of wards (electoral areas) and constituencies conformed to relevant provisions of the CPP constitution.

It also stated that the Central Committee would soon come out with dates for the closing of nominations for the various positions open for contest at the Congress, vetting of aspirants, receipts of proposals for amendment to the party's constitution and schedules for the Congress. 7 Aug 07
