Discourage friendship association in party - NPP executive

Mankessim, Aug. 3, GNA - The Vice Chairman of the Mfantseman West Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Felix Nyarko-Antwi, has called on the leadership of the party to discourage the formation of friendship associations in support of the various aspirants for the position of flag bearer to contest the 2008 elections.

Speaking to the GNA at Mankessim, Mr. Nyarko-Antwi noted that such associations if encouraged could divide the party since those who were not friends of a particular aspirant would be seen as his enemies. He recalled that a similar division within the Danquah-Busia group led to the losing of the election to the People National Party (PNP) in 1979.

Mr. Nyarko-Antwi called for the re-organisation of the Party's propaganda machinery, which he described as "ineffective".

He said the government had done a lot and initiated a number of interventions to help reduce poverty but noted that only a few were enjoying them because majority of the people did not know anything about them.

The Constituency Vice Chairman identified the National Emergency Ambulance service and the various micro-financing schemes as examples of the initiatives to alleviate poverty that the people must know.
